April 22, 2010

I wanted to let everyone know that a lot has happened in the past week. Ryan has not been doing well and we knew things were not looking good. At his appointment this week, we were told that more treatment is not an option at this point because his body is not recovering the way it needs to in order to receive more chemo.

So, we will be starting hospice today and the doctor is giving Ryan approximately 2 weeks.

Although we feel much sadness, we also have so much joy in our hearts with the knowledge that we have:

We KNOW that this is God's will and that Ryan will return to be with our Heavenly Father, free of pain and sickness... he will be whole again. We KNOW that because we were married and sealed together in God's holy house, that we will be a family, forever. We KNOW that the Lord will continue to provide the strength and comfort that we will need to get through this. We KNOW that God loves us and we are NOT alone.

"When thou are in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; (For the Lord thy God is a merciful God; he will not forsake thee...)" Deuteronomy 4:30-31

Thank you all for the continued prayers, fasts and for all the love and support!

This breaks my heart to hear this. Please know that you have been in our thoughts and prayers and that we have put your names in the temple every time we go. It has been many years since we have seen each other, but I love you both just the same. Ryan, you were such an example to me of how a young man should treat a daughter of God. Thank you for that and for all the fun we had together. I still remember you driving the pathfinder up the side of the mountain while we were on a double date and I about had a heart attack. You were in heaven. You loved your car and having fun, but you especially loved the girl sitting next to you. We love you guys

We did sealings in the Temple Tuesday and we thought of you, Ryan and the kids. Margie, you are so amazing! You have been an incredible warrior and inspiration. Ryan, you are an amazing man!! I enjoy the stories Cortney tells me of the "Smoot Boys." You will always have a special place in our hearts. I can't wait for the joyous reunion of you and your family and all of us in the Celestial Kingdom of God. You have an incredible work to do. As the Savior has walked with you he will surely list you up to serve in his great work that only continues. I know he lives independent of any other person for I have seen him and I have heard the voice bearing record that he is God's Almighty son. I pray his peace that passeth all understanding will be with you, your family and all who love you at this difficult time!

Okay, so I have clicked on comments like 50 times now and just can't figure out what to say.

It was so beautiful to hear the strength and the faith and the trust in the Lord in your voice this morning. In a strange way I walked away feeling peace and comfort and a stronger testimony than I have ever had about eternal families. I am so grateful to hear how Heavenly Father is bearing you up through this trial.

Ryan will be missed, so dearly missed! I was so grateful that the Harrises were here today because we were able to spend time reminiscing and reflecting on what a beautiful impact Ryan has made on the people who have been blessed to call him a friend, and even those who have never met him.

We love you, the prayers don't stop here and there will be late nights filled with laughter again, in a better place.

You truly are a great examle to me. Since the day I met you as you walked into the apartment to begin your service to Lord in Milwaukee, the times in between, and now, I cannot think of anyone who has had a more positive attitude. Having lost my son I learned that we cannot know the will of our Heavenly Father, but that the atonement truly does work. I felt the peace of knowing that our families are eternal and that this life is just a small part of the journey. I have faith that the Lord will do what is best for you and your family. In the end, you all belong to Him. If there is anything that I can do for you or your family, let me know.

I love you brother,

Keith Bangart

I like so many others, am a stranger, who was introduced to your blog through my daughter Kylee Thompson. As I have followed your journey, I have wondered "why". However, as I read this latest heartbreaking news, I thought of the many, many people that you have impacted for good. People that you may never know, their lives will be forever changed, because of your constant love and trust in the Savior. Your faith has strengthened my faith. Your journey has not been in vain.

You are such a beautiful family inside and out. I continue to pray for comfort, strength, and for your family to feel the love of all those whose hearts you each touch. I was reminiscing down in the laundry room last night all the times we crossed paths downstairs Margie and all our memories we shared together here in Kenosha. Ryan & Darin making snowmen, taking pics of you & Ryan under the newly fallen snow on the tree just outside our window...laughing, our kids playing..and just talking. I love you guys so much. I was filled with such sweet memories and tears with the trials you face together. I have hope and I have faith and I believe there is a plan for each of us. You all touch so many lives in ways you'll never know. Big hug.

Love,
Darin, Taylor, Jake & Samantha Thomas

I know that I only knew you guys for a few months before we moved. But your family has been in our hearts ever since then. I am amazed at the strength you have shown through this tribulation. I thank you for sharing your fight through the blog and keeping everyone up to date with Ryan's status.

I have had a few friends with cancer but no one ever really shared their experience like you have. The courage you shared through out this fight will never be forgotten.

It just breaks my heart to hear of Ryan's prognosis and what you are going through right now. I can't stop the tears from flowing. I will always remember you and your sweet family. We will continue to pray for you and hope that these last few days will be spent with the ones you love and that there will be peace.

Tell we meet again!

Margie I was remembering the Christmas we all got to spend together!! Ryan had made his "moose food" or whatever it was called. He said that was his family tradition. WELL, get the receipe and I promise to make it our tradition too! Let Ry know that this is big since I don't cook...LOL But really you have until Dec to get the recipe to me! RYAN WE LOVE YOU!!!
How lucky you guys are to have time to let each other know all the important stuff that we think we have forever to tell each other!!

Your body is such a miracle, of Heavenly Fathers creation. After enduring through medicines most valiant effort, healing and/or relief will come from a gracious loving Father who knows what is best for his son. Have faith in his all knowing wisdom. Listen to the spirit and follow those promptings that surpass mans wisdom and knowledge. May his will be done. You have such a beautiful eternal family. Our prayers are with you, and I still hope..

I stumbled upon on your blog by accident and my heart and prayers goes out to you and your children. The anticipation of knowing that your husband, your best friend, the father of your children is soon to cross over to a much happier place, is very overwhelming. I know! I am a mother of 7 beautiful children and it will be 5 years since my husband, my best friend, the father of our beautiful children was called home. KNowing that we are sealed for time and eternity and that we will reunite once again, gives me comfort and peace though we do spend alot of time at the temple grounds for that peace. I wish I can tell you it will get easier, with children, the constant reminder weighs heavily upon you as a mom...i can only offer my love for you and your family and prayers of comfort ease the pain. Hold on to our FAITH and the testimony you have that Heavenly Father will help you!

We also continue to pray multiple times day and night. Putting your names on the Oakland temple prayer roll and fasting for the Ryan Hess family is part of what we do! Our Father in heaven is interested in the little things in my life so I know that he is highly involved in the big and painful things too. With the music of I’m a Child of God playing I just heard in my mind the 4th verse:“I am a child of God. His promises are sure; Celestial glory shall be mine If I can but endure.” We are praying Margie that you will always recognize your many talents and have confidence in your abilities and that you will be able to endure with joy and gladness. Bless you, Bless you,
