The past 2 weeks Ryan has been HOSPITAL FREE...
Unfortunately, that does not mean DR/APPT free.
(Since Ryan started his chemo on Monday and his surgery was scheduled for Tues, his oncologist and the neurosurgeon thought it would be best to wait until a later date to place the Ommaya catheter. No surgery for now... YAY!)
For this round of chemo, Ryan was able to go to the Dr's clinic to receive his infusions.
So we spent a few hours every day HERE:
-AND-
Ryan was LUCKY enough to come home with these two bad boys:
(IV pumps for his Chemo)
His new BFF's...they were inseparable:
***
So what do you do when you spend 4+ hours at the Dr's office just sitting there?
Text/play games, sleep... and READ READ READ
Here is a sneak peak at some of our reading material:
The recipes were DELISH- not a good thing to read when you are STARVING!
(Ryan is on a high protein/high cal diet. Any recipes to help him gain weight- SEND THEM OUR WAY!)
... so I'm saving it for a later date!
(Right now we are waiting to see if one of Ryan's siblings are a match for the transplant)
Upon leaving each appt, Ryan was given LOTS of these:
So we have a little pharmacy going on at our house:
***
Then one day, they decided to give Ryan some cherry Kool-Aid via IV
ha ha... JUST KIDDING, its CHEMO!
And here is just one of the many side effects of chemo...
CANKLES
However, somewhere between the appts, cankles and everything else,
we see Ryan like this:
***
Then after 5 LONG days AND nights, Ryan was finally FREE from his
"BALL and CHAIN"
I think he was debating seeing how far he could chuck that thing...
Lets just hope the smiles continue during this next week as his counts drop and the side effects really KICK in!
~Hugs to all~

We have done that reading, pretty intense stuff huh? I didn't realize he would do a transplant. If you have any questions ( I know it won't be exactly the same and Chloe's) you let me know. We continue to pray for you, and to give you some you can do this news, chloe, after two years after transplant, finally gets to go to school!
Hooray for Team Ryan Hess! Keep those chins up but remember sometimes tears need to come too.
Your in our prayers and thoughts. May God bless you and your dear children and wonderful wife!!
Quinoa(sp)...its a grain that is high protein. You can cook it and make it into salads and stuff. Just FYI from a friend who is pretty knowledgable about health...She says red meat is the worst thing he can eat during cancer. Read up on macrobiotic diets or the alkaline cure(diet)...a big long book. Also get on astragulas (herbal supplament) ASAP! If you want I can have her send you some informative stuff. Just e-mail and let us know if you want. Shes pretty much helped cure someone form cancer, herbally.
The Hartungs pray daily for your family and the doctors.
Beat it. Just beat it!

It's great to see you in such good spirits. Keep it up! I love the cankles, I remember Casey had the same thing. They feel so soft!
Brian's Mom swears that the herbal supplements that she gave Jill (Brian's sister) during her cancer is "really" what healed her, and helped her into remission. I know Brian's Dad is trying the supplements now as well. I can get you more information if you need it. I'm sure you've looked into this already. Keep up the fight! You have many praying for you.
It really does look like Kool-Aid! Ryan, you look pretty good with a shaved head! Love you guys and are praying for you!
I'm so glad he at least got to sleep at home this time, although it looks like there was still plenty of time spent at the doctor's. Keep looking at the bright side of things, and know that we are praying for you and thinking of you so much! Thanks for the updates!!
I love the humor. Margie, you're taking some great pictures too! Very "fun" to read and I'm so glad to see so many smiles from Ryan. I am very impressed by that!! What a trooper. Keep it up!
